2010 Report
Sunshine and smiles meant success for the 2010 Fun Runs, with 589 runners taking part in the 1 and a half, 3- mile and 6-mile runs.

Despite the heat, runners aged 4 to local veteran Cliff Simm, a great grandfather and octogenarian participated. He has run in nearly every Fun Run since 1983! The Boot Shop as usual made a big day of the event and entered in England colours with some hopes for victory in the world cup still alive at this time.

This is truly a community event with families of all ages joining in, mothers with toddlers and babes in back packs, mums and dads, boys and girls and even a “Fairy” and a very hot “Fireman” who we are sure quenched his inner fire later on.

The committee would like to acknowledge the huge contribution made this year by local sponsors. We have raised more money for Scouts and Guides in the area than ever before, with the grand total standing at over £3,700.

Great thanks go to our main sponsors; Nestle, Quality Solicitors Burn and Company, Rose Bower Garage, Mimosa Pizzeria and Ristorante, Toft Lodge Veterinary Centre, The Banyan Tree and Stephensons Estate Agents plus a host of local businesses mentioned on all recent publicity and entry forms. We sincerely hope that you will continue to support the Run in the future.

The Galtres Fun Run was organised by a hard-working committee headed by David Bream. He took over from Max Goodwin this year and seamlessly ensured the Run was a continuing success. All of this would not happen without the 70 + volunteers who annually assist in making the Fun Run safe and enjoyable for the runners, for all the help given, we thank you.

To the runners, we congratulate you, and we must not forget the huge turn out of supporters who cheered on the participants.

Before detailing the winners a special thanks must go to The Lions and Easingwold Police whose support was invaluable to the success of the whole day, long may our partnerships continue.

The winners of the 6-mile run were Donald McMillan and Rebecca Earl for the 17+ male and female categories. Rory McMillan won the male 12- 16 category for the third year running. Anna Gould won the 12-16 female category. Ollie Woodcock 1st Moxby Moor won the 1st Scout category. The team trophy was won by the Sheriff Shufflers who took over from the long run of wins by the Al Capones.

It comes as no surprise that three of the winning team share the surname McMillan with the fourth member being Connie O’Neil. Lets have a challenge to their reign next year. No guide trophy was won in the 6-mile event.

The winners of the 3-mile run were Adam Price and Hannah Lawrence who won in the 12-16 male and female categories with Hannah of 2nd Easingwold Guides also picking up the first 3-mile guide award. Sam Fielding and Natalie Houlston won the up to 11 male and female category respectively. The first Scout was Phillip Nesom 1st Dunnington. The first Cub was Solomon Tomlin-Kent 1st Moxby Moor. The first Brownie was Lucy Lawrence 1st Sutton on the Forest.

The winners of the 1 and a half-mile run were Shaun Foster and Charlotte Bullough in the 9-11 male and female categories. William Reid and Jamie Didlick won the under 9 male and female category respectively. The final awards. First Cub Mathew Avison 1st Kyle Valley. First Beaver Edward Ramsden 1st Moxby Moor. First Brownie Charlotte Walker 1st Easingwold. First Rainbow Katie Harte 1st Bedale.

On behalf of the Galtres Run Committee we look forward to seeing you all again in 2011.
