| 2010 Report |
On a dark evening in early January each year, a few stalwart people get together, to plan what they hope will be a fabulous community event and fund raiser on the last Saturday in June.
The Galtres Run Committee, the organising body of this annual event for local Scout and Guide funds, hope for sun (but not too much), lots of people entering beforehand (less administration on the day) and to beat last year’s figures (both entry numbers and monies raised).
We also hope that everyone has a really good time and there aren’t any serious mishaps.
This year we were a little down on numbers, but still made around £3,500, a fantastic achievement given the prevailing economic conditions!
Each year we consider a range of ways to make the whole event easier to organise, safer for the runners and not too onerous for the 75 plus people who volunteer help marshal the race on the day. The Galtres Committee would like to thank all the volunteers for turning up on the day and doing their bit. We really do appreciate the time, care and attention you each give to your allotted task.
We’d also like to thank the Easingwold District Lions for the help and support they give us; again without you it would be difficult to provide such an enjoyable set of fun runs. Also this year, it was good to see the police very much in evidence. We couldn’t do it without all of you so again, very many thanks to you all.
The complete winners list is available from the link on the left of the page, but it’s nice to mention a few.
Mal Rose and Sarah Sigsworth each won their respective 17+ male and female categories in the 6 Mile run and Team Extreme won the team trophy. This year we had a really good turn out from Moxby Moor Scout Group which is based in and around Huby. Their Scouts, Cubs and Beavers all featured in the trophies. Callum Darragh (from Moxby Moor) was the 1st Scout in the 6 mile. In the 3 mile Phillip Nesom was 1st in the 12-16 male category, as well as the 1st Scout (from 1st Dunnington Scouts). Daniel Greenwood (from Moxby Moor) was first Cub in the 3 mile, while in the 1 ½ mile race William Reid was first Cub and Louis Boyce was 1st Beaver - both from Moxby Moor.
Catriona Varney was the first female in the 3 mile in the 12-16 female category. Ellisa Oakley was the 1st Guide (from 1st Flaxton Guides) in the 3 mile and Grace Pocklington (from 3rd Easingwold Brownies) was first in her section of the 3 mile. Isobel Levin (of Sutton on the Forest Brownies) was first Brownie in the 1½ mile and an Alne Rainbow, Scarlet Ellis won the Rainbow section in the 1½ mile. James Horton Knights and Eve Bower won their 9-11 male and female categories of the 1½ mile.
The Galtres Run Committee - David Bream (Chairman), Helen Sykes (Sponsorship), Lynn Wagstaff (Treasurer), David Waring (Scout Representative), Pru Johnson (Publicity) and Geoff Livesey (committee member)- would like to thank everyone who took part and we hope to see you again next year.
