11 June 2004 Public meeting in the Galtres Centre Lounge Bar launches the Easingwold 20 Zone Campaign. Aims agreed and committee formed. County Councillor Peter Sowray pledges his support.

21 May 2004 County Council sends this campaign a drawing of the scheme it now intends to finish in 2006/2007. ALL of the speed tables (which will effectively slow down traffic) have been replaced by speed cushions (which most cars and nearly all buses can ignore)

29 April 2004 Parking forum held at the primary school at which County Highways engineer reveals the County Council has put the 20mph zone on the back burner. It becomes apparent that parents at the school have not been asked for their opinions on the 20mph zone details.

June 2003 Consultation process for Easingwold Traffic Management Strategy held. Questionnaires sent to Easingwold residents and exhibition held in Galtres Centre. Residents asked if they support a 20mph zone. No details given of any schemes.

1 April 2003 "Second Stakeholder Workshop" held. It included "suggestions" for a 20mph zone outside the primary school


19 Nov 2002 "Initial Stakeholder Workshop" held to discuss the Easingwold Traffic Management Strategy. Little or no mention of 20mph zone


24 July 2002 Letters sent out to residents close to the proposed 20mph zone . Enclosed with the letters was a drawing of Scheme 1. One of the speed tables had disappeared from the scheme agreed eight months earlier. See 'The tables mystery' on this site.

20 Nov 2001 North Yorkshire County Council gave a presentation to Easingwold Town Council outlining a 20mph zone outside the primary school with THREE speed tables and a set of speed cushions. The town council voted in favour of the scheme.
