Thanks to everyone who signed up to this campaign we have the speed tables in place!

It goes to show that people power can work! Thank you to everyone who supported our campaign

20mph Zones Save Lives:

"Average speeds reduced by 9 mph, annual accident frequency fell by 60%, the overall reduction in child accidents was 67%"

It took people-power to get a proper scheme on the cards

This campaign was launched when we found out that the best scheme for slowing traffic outside Easingwold Community Primary School - using speed tables - was watered down before it was made public - and was then scrapped altogether.

Government research shows that speed tables (humps) are the only thing that will reliably slow traffic to 20mph or below. The government tells councils that speed cushions don't work properly in 20mph zones. But guess what North Yorkshire County Council was planning for Easingwold - speed cushions!

Speed Cushions Don't Work:

"Using these devices extensively within a 20 mph zone may not result in an acceptable reduction in speed levels."

You made a difference!
The Easingwold 20 Zone Campaign was formed by parents of children at the town's primary school. We wanted to force the council to stop stalling. We wanted the best 20mph zone scheme we could get. We wanted it to slow down cars and lorries significantly outside the school. Thanks to the help of everyone who signed our petition, Easingwold's children have been given the protection they deserve.
